Arab-American Historical Foundation to hold second History Conference Hosted by the University of Maryland,
December 7-9, 2007

The conference program will include a variety of panels addressing the importance of collecting, preserving, disseminating and perpetuating Arab American History, said Prof. Suheil Bushrui, conference chairman and director of the Kahlil Gibran Chair for Values and Peace Project at the University of Maryland. There is a large void in the preservation of Arab American history and this conference will broaden the scope of research, conservation and dissemination of Arab American historical collections to assist historians, scholars, the press and the public.     The outcome of the conference will be disseminated through print, TV-satellite and electronic posting including the AAHF website: www.arabamericanhistory.org , the press and scholarly, historically oriented publications and forums. It is crucial that access to the AAHF collection be as widely available and as simple as possible in order that the collected data serves not only researchers and educators who are the primary users of electronic means for research, but the general American public and researchers worldwide.                              The mission and objectives of the Arab-American Foundation, a non-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, are:  • To promote preservation and dissemination of Arab-American history; research, promote, develop archival collection and pertinent resources about Arab-American history, this is to include documents, books, press, manuscripts, academic essays, audio-video and photos; hold and participate in conferences and exhibitions promoting cooperation and new ways to conserve American historical treasures addressing Arab-American achievements and contributions; disseminate Arab-American history to researchers, scholars, the press and the public to foster greater understanding; and to engage in other historical and educational activities. The AAHF publishes “Arab American Historian” newsletter. The history of Arab-Americans is a vital part of the American national history and cultural identity.
