The News Circle/Arab-American Affairs Magazine Marks 35th Anniversary.

The News Circle/Arab-American Affairs magazine marked this year its 35th anniversary covering the Arab-American community, announced Joseph R. Haiek, publisher. Since its establishment in Los Angeles in June 1972, The News Circle has transformed its simple format from a few tabloid pages to a national magazine averaging 84 pages in English covering Arab-American news, views, business, perspectives, biography, society, calendar of Arab-American events, the arts, Arab world issues, culture and press-bibliography. Some of the magazine is online: www.arab-american-affairs.net Throughout its 35 years, The News Circle Publishing House, in addition to publishing the magazine, has also published the Arab-American Almanac series, the most comprehensive reference book about the Arab-American community. The 560-page 5th edition, provides Arab-American history, literature, organizations, press, religious institutions, an outline about the Arab world and the U.S., contributions and achievements, bibliography and over 400 photos. Currently production is on to finalize the Almanac 6th edition and will not include advertising in order to increase distribution to a wider number of American universities, education institutions, libraries and book stores. Keeping with historical preservation requirements, the entire collection of The News Circle/Arab-American Affairs magazine, the Arab-American Almanac series, photos and documentation are archived with the Arab-American Historical Foundation. The publications are microfilmed by a major university. Work is underway to digitize most of the collection for national, worldwide outreach and posterity. "Arab-Americans are an integral part of the American ethnic heritage, and The News Circle during the past 35 years has contributed its share to perpetuate the Arab-American culture, history and commitment to America, while helping in fostering better understanding of their perspectives, concerns and obligations," Haiek concluded.
